Correction of Exceptional but fundamental error in Mirat ul Jalali

Today I am going to present my findings about the real ancestor of the Bukhari Sadat settled in Pargana Chall of District Allahabad, India

The Bukharis of Chail 

The Bukharis of Chail and the informed ones of Chail have known for long that Sadaat-i-Bukhari of Chail are descended  from One Qazi Husamuddin Bukhari who lies buried  in a Village named Parsakhi(in Tehsil Sirathu). This Qazi Husamuddin is reported to be the son of Syed Sadruddin Raju Qattal Suharwardi of Uchh , the younger Brother of celebrated saint Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari more famous as Makhdoom Jahaniyan Jahan Gasht RA.

Now question arises from where do we/they get this information ?

Mirat al Jalali 

The Answer is that there is only one source of this information and that is a book named “Mirat ul Jalali” compiled and published by a gentleman named Syed Khaleel Ahmad of Mindara ( Mendara, Pargana Nawabganj, Soraon ) of Allahabad in 1918.Janab Khaleel Ahmad of Mendara was an inspector of Police and it seems that after retirement he dedicated his time to compile and publish the family history family trees in the form of Mirat al Jalali. Apparently he visited the villages of Bukhari Sadat in Chail and compiled the information into shajras and then published the book and for this great Endeavour we must be thankful to him.

Through this book we came to know that Qazi HusamUddin Bukhari was the ancestor of the large clan of Sadat Bukharis scattered in Chail and that he was the son of Hazrat Sadruddin Raju Qattal. Everyone who has read that believed all the information to be correct and after the publications of this book a few more Shajras were prepared in Chail, for example Hakeemuddin Urf Ikramullah Shah of Bada Gaon, who copied and imitated MIrat Al Jalali but the fundamental & cardinal fact was missing.

The principle of any such research is to find a reliable source of information, published or unpublished that supports the contents of a book but unfortunately there was no source quoted in Mirat al Jalali or any other Shajras to verify the information given in the book. There are references in the book about other details but not about the main subject Qazi Husamuddin.

Ever since I took up the task of visiting, compiling and writing notices on the villages of Chail. I was intrigued about the few statements of this book that seemed to me quite incorrect but ___without any contrary evidence and proof____ , my observations were just an assumptions  ,they would not become facts unless proven true with historical evidences.

The first and most important fact was the statement that Qazi Husamuddin Hasan , the ancestor of Bukharis in Chail , was the son of Shaikh Sadruddin Raju Qattal ( sometimes spelt as Rajan Qattal) which is 100 % incorrect. This fundamental and cardinal issue was unbelievably WRONG in Mirat al Jalali.

Now I present here  my finding about Syed Sadruddin Raju Qattal

Syed Sadruddin Raju Qattal Suhrwardi ( 730-827 AH)

Was a famous saint of Suharwardi order, was the son of Syed Ahmad Kabir and younger brother of Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari aka Makhdoom Jahanian Jahan Gasht of Uchh, He died on, 16 Jumada Al Aakhir 827 Hijra , 1424 AD leaving behind five sons  ( in some records only four) namely,

The names of real sons of Makhdoom Raju Qattal

•      Jalaludddin Khwaja
•         Roohullah
•          Abu ishaq
•         Abdul Azeez
•         Banda nawaz

Out of them only three got their lineage continued. There is no one with the name of Husamuddin amongst his children. I checked this first in the books then I contacted Uchh Bahawalpur to find out the details. I was confirmed that there was no son of Raju Qatal with the name of Husamuddin.

My doubts which i had from the very beginning were now confirmed when I went through the Bukhari Shajras and did not find name of Qazi Husamuddin amongst the sons of Hazrat Sadruddin Raju Qattal

I was in a perplexed situation where I could not believe that our forefathers would have lied and spread such misinformation about their lineage ? I was in a fix but I did not give up , I tried my level best to reach the source of Shajras of Bukhari Sadat in Uchh.

By the grace of Allah SWT it took years to reach to the correct source from Uch Bahawalpur to find out the correct line of succession.

I found out that Qazi Husamuddin is the son of Shihab uddin , the grandson of Makhdoom Jahaniyan Jahan Gasht.

Now the lineage goes like this.

Thus it is now established that Qazi Husamuddin was the great grand son of Makhdoom Jahaniyan Jahan Gasht.

It is further corroborated with the book , Bagh Sadaat – Hakeem Syed Tajammul Husain Shah Naqvi Al Bukhari Uchhvi wherein he has categorically mentioned at page no.129 about Husamauddin to be the son of Shihabuddin , further he has given the names of Bada Gaon and Kashiya as the places of residence of Sadat Bukhari of Chail.  

It clearly mentions Mauza Kashia Daak Khana Moorat Ganj, Allahabad -Don’t confuse yourself that only Kashia is mentioned here, the fact is that Kashia had a record keeping family there until 1947 at the Takia hence whenever someone wanted information about the Bukharis of Chail they contacted Takia at Kashia. You would notice that Bada Gaon is also mentioned.

Please appreciate that the writer and compiler of this book was in Lahore and still he managed to compile the information correctly after sitting so far from Allahabad while our own people could not do so in the past hundreds of years.

There is another Authentic book on Naqvi Sadat named Riyaz ul Ansab by Syed Maqsood Naqvi. On page no. 117 he has produced the same Shajra. Bhure Miyan is shown as the son of Syed Husamuddin . 

Also all the 8 sons are not mentioned here because whatever information was received at Markaz Uchh was registered. The first born Bhure Miyan is clearly mentioned and the first settlement was possibly at Kashia , hence the branch of Kashia is mentioned here as a specimen. It does not mean there are no other sons of Syed Husamuddin.

Makhdoom Nasiruddin Mahmood Nar

Makhdoom Nar Nasiruddin was the son of Makhdoom Jahaniyan Jahan Gasht Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari , Full name is Nasiruddin Mahmood. Old chroniclers mentioned him as “ Nar Nasiruddin” , here Nar refers to his Manhood, vitality and it refers to his numerous wives & children that he fathered.

Famous genealogist Syed Karam Husain Bukhari Uchvi has mentioned in his book “ Bahr al Matalib fee ansaab aal I abi Taalib that he had many wives with whom he had 25 sons and 22 daughters, out of which only 14 have their lineage going

1 Ismail , 2 Alauddin, 3. Shihabuddin, 4 Sharfuddin, 5 Alamuddin, 6 Abdul Haq, 7 Abdul Razzaq , 8 Faizullah, 9 Eesa, 10 Sirajuddin, 11 Taifur , 12 Bahauddin, 13 Makhdoom Hamid Kabir Shamsuddin, 14. Hazrat Burhanuddin Qutub I Alam Ahmadbadi

Surprising Unawareness & laxity !

I am surprised as to how this ultimate blunder took place, how can a person insert someone as the father of another without having information  proof or evidence ? that too , about such an illustrious family of Sadaat in Indian subcontinent . I cannot believe how Hazrat Sadruddin Raju Qattal became the father of Qazi Husamuddin Bukhari ?  There is no documentary proof or valid reference to this fact.

Though I would not doubt the intention of Khaleel Ahmad Mindarvi Marhoom but I am at a loss to understand that if he was not sure or he had some doubts , he should better have not written a book that has been published twice and thrice and whoever would read it till the end of this world will take the contents to be gospel truth. This means that Mohtaram Khaleel Ahmad Sahib had no idea and he simply copied the wrong information about the father of Qazi Sahib apparently on hearsay or word of mouth ?

It also corroborates the fact that the Bukharis had long lost the contact with their origin and had forgotten the original Shajra over the long period of time along with the names . Someone at a later date tried to compile and put together the names in the form of the Shajra and in this course he inserted the name of Makhdoom Sadruddin Raju Qatal as the father of Qazi Husamuddin because they had lost the original records. Had they got the original record and shajra , they would not have committed such a ultimate mistake.

We may be surprised at the grave negligence of the Bukharis of Chail but how we can justify the laxity and negligence of recent compilers and editors of the same book who lived in Pakistan but could not identify or rectify the error ? They were in the best position to visit their ancestral abode and could have verified the records personally.

Syed Aftab Ahmad Bukhari  Marhoom who edited and updated that book in 1993 was in Karachi and recently Afroz Ahmad Sahib marhoom published a heavy weight book named “ Hadaiq -i-Jalali” in 2014 with updated Shajras of all the eight villages of Bukharis in Chail. He made lofty claims about Shajras and genealogies in this book but he himself did not know his real ancestor ?

It is noteworthy that Afroz Sahib had published not less than two dozen shajras of all the villages of Chail but I am sorry to say that none of his work is reliable or trustworthy. They have facts and fiction both mingled with actual or fictinal names. His book“Hadaiq-i-Jalali is a bunch of lies, distorted facts and gross misinformation. 

I would have never liked but I am compelled to write a brief rebuttal of his book. This is not my mizaj but I will write this for the posterity as to how the freelance cynical and whimsical history writing could play havoc. May Allaah swt save me and all from these kind of errors and sins.

The fact is that these gentlemen including Maulvi Khaleel Ahmad of Mindara had NO IDEA about this error. Since they had no doubt about the records, they did no research whatsoever and just copied and multiplied and forwarded the shajras without doing a factual cross-check. May Allah have mercy on all of these elders ! They did try to do good and did great work but somehow missed some very basic facts unchecked.

Now it is a responsibility of the present generation of Bukharis of Chail to put their records straight , correct their Shajras, change the name of their ancestor , print a new book of Shajra , get the Mirat al Jalali corrected with a proper note and foreward about the monumental & original mistake of the compiler.
